tuning

It's recommended that your piano be tuned every six months to keep it sounding it's best and to maintain the stability of the instrument.

Regular tuning also allows for minor adjustments to the action while inspecting your piano to costly and extensive repairs and avoid that maintenance issues can be addressed, making the need for extensive repairs less likely.

Voicing

Voicing is the regulation of tone and is achieved through conditioning of the hammers. The purpose of voicing is to obtain maximum quality and uniformity of sound across the entire keyboard. Hammers are hardened by the application of lacquer or other hardening solution, or softened with needling to produce the desired results.

Regulation

Over time, the felts compact, the wooden parts warp, and screws loosen causing parts to misalign. Regulation is the adjustment of
the piano's parts so that they interact with each other correctly. Key dip, hammer blow distance,  damper lift, and jack escapement are just a few of the actions that need to be adjusted so that your piano can perform as best possible. We provide everything from minor adjustments to complete regulation so that your piano is
working the way it was designed to function.

Strings

Setup

Adjustment of action on an instrument.
This is a matter of personal preference
and different players like to have their
instrument setup to suit their playing
style.
Setup includes: clean fingerboard,
polish frets, replace strings, neck
adjustment, set string height, intonation,
pickup height, adjust tremolo (where
applicable - additional charge for locking
tremolo)

Fret Work

Fret Dressing: Levelling, crowning,
and polishing of worn frets.
Partial Refret: A few of the frets can be replaced in some instances, but is not always a solution for worn out frets.
Refret: Replace all frets when a partial refret will not remedy the problem.

Nuts and Saddles

Replace old nuts and saddles with handmade bone, Micarta, Corian, or Tusq for better tone and action.

Electronics

We can replace or install pickups, pots, and
switches as well as perform rewiring or clean noisy pots and switches.

Other Repairs

Repair cracks, broken necks and headstocks, finish repair (depending on how extensive it may be),
replacing tuners, bridges,  restoration of damaged instruments. We also repair bows, repair violins, cellos and most other stringed instruments.

Frets & Keys does not provide service for woodwinds (flutes, clarinets, etc.) and brass instruments (trumpets,  trombones, etc.)  at this time. We can, however, put you in touch with highly qualified technicians that work on these instruments.
